About

THE INGREDIENTS THAT GO INTO CREATING YOUR ORDER

We only work with Cow hides and use a waxy pull up leather for all of our leather journals, notebooks, sketchbooks, recipe books and notebook covers.

Pull up leather is oil and wax rich and known for the beautiful manner in which it develops a personality of it's own over time. It's colour changes slightly as it's used and folded and scratched which brings the oils to the surface and lightens the areas where it is being manipulated. It develops a beautiful character that reflects the journey that it's owner is making with it and that's why we love working with this type of leather. It tells of a story that is continually evolving and changing much like our own life stories and it bears the marks of wear in much the same way that we do.

We have 2 different qualities and all of them are firm but not stiff, will soften with use and mark and wear beautifully, developing a wonderful character over time. They take on a personality of their own the more you use them.

  • COLORADO - 2.2-2.5mm, smooth silky finish touch, slightly heavier than Mohawk.
  • PANAMA– 1.8-2mm, wonderfully textured, slightly distressed and rugged looking pull up leather that burnishes magnificently.

Leather is a natural product and no two pieces of leather are ever the same. Sometimes slight marks, scars and folds can be seen on the hides. These marks of life give the leather character and add to the unique nature of the product which will age and become more authentic over time further enhancing the natural characteristics and beauty of this material.

We use a 140gsm cartridge paper for our A7 books and a 160gsm cartridge paper for all of the other sizes.

    • This paper is FSC certified, acid free, chlorine free,  sized for extra wet strength with a matt white even surface.
    • It is suitable for wet and dry media or simply just for writing.

Traditionally, linen thread has been used in bookmaking because of it's strength and long life. We use a waxed Irish linen thread to bind our journals and saddle stitch our covers because of this durability.

For our book covers we use traditional English saddle stitching using 2 needles and a thread to hand stitch the leather. Saddle stitching is much more durable than machine stitching which ensures it will stand the test of time and wear.

    THE MAKING PROCESS:

We use only our bare hands to hand cut, hand punch, hand fold and hand stitch each of our items and we use only the most traditional of leather working tools.
